Who Cleans Heat Pumps? We Do!

Heat Pump and Ductless Mini-Split Cleaning in Northwest Vermont

Your heat pump runs almost every day of the year. Over time, dust, pet hair, and grime build up inside the indoor unit where you can’t see it. That buildup cuts airflow, makes your system work harder, and can leave you with a musty smell every time it kicks on.

We take the unit apart, clean it inside and out, and put it back together running the way it should.

Why Clean Your Heat Pump?

Filters only catch so much. Everything that gets past them ends up on the coil and the blower wheel inside the indoor unit. A dirty system:

Z

Moves less air, so your rooms take longer to heat and cool

Z

Runs longer and uses more electricity

Z

Wears out parts sooner

Z

Can smell musty or stale when it turns on

A good cleaning brings airflow back, helps your system run efficiently, and gives our tech a chance to catch small problems before they turn into expensive repairs.

Signs Your Heat Pump Needs a Cleaning

  • A musty or sour smell when the unit turns on
  • Weaker airflow than it used to have
  • Black specks or buildup on the vanes or around the vent
  • Higher electric bills with no change in how you use it
  • The unit runs longer to reach the set temperature
  • It hasn’t been cleaned in over a year (or ever)

If any of these sound familiar, give us a call.

Our Cleaning Process

Inspect.

We check the unit over before we start so we know what we’re working with.

Take it apart.

We remove the covers and parts to get to the coil, blower wheel, and drain pan.

Clean it.

Using a pressure washer and a funnel and bag system, we wash out the dirt, debris, and buildup from the coil, fan, and other parts.

Put it back together.

Every part goes back where it belongs and gets connected the right way.

Test it.

We run the system to make sure it’s heating and cooling the way it should.

Check it over.

We look for anything that needs attention and let you know what we find before you spend a dime on repairs.

No Mess Left Behind

We hang a bag and funnel under the indoor unit to catch all the dirty water and runoff. Your walls, floors, and furniture stay clean. When we leave, the only thing that looks different is your heat pump.

Before and After a Real Cleaning

This is what comes out of a heat pump that hasn’t been cleaned in a while. All of that dirt, dust and buildup was blowing through the house and clogging up the units before we got there.

The back of an outdoor unit, before and after cleaning. The lint, leaves and dirt in the coil kept air from moving through it, so the system had to work harder to heat and cool.

The same blower wheel after a full cleaning, with the blades clean and clear

The blower wheel inside a ductless wall unit, before and after cleaning. That gray buildup on the blades was in the airflow going into the room every time the system ran.

How Often Should You Clean It?

We recommend cleaning your heat pump once a year. Homes with pets, smokers, or heavy cooking may need it more often. Keep up with cleaning the filters yourself between visits, about once a month during heavy use.

Where We Clean

We clean heat pumps throughout Franklin, Chittenden, and Grand Isle counties, plus parts of Lamoille County. Our cleaning service reaches a little farther than our other services, so check the map to see if you’re covered.

FAQ

How long does a cleaning take?

About [XX minutes] per indoor unit. Most homes are done in [X hours].

Can I clean my heat pump myself?

You can, and should, clean the filters yourself. The coil and blower wheel are a different story. They sit deep inside the unit and need to be taken apart to clean properly, which is a job for a trained tech.

Will it make a mess in my house?

No. Our bag and funnel system catches all the water and dirt, and we protect the area around the unit.

Do I need to be home?

Yes, someone 18 or older needs to be home to let us in.

Is my system covered if you find a problem?

If our tech finds something that needs repair, we’ll explain what it is and what it costs before doing any work.
