Types of Water Heaters We Install

Tank water heaters

The standard choice for most homes. We install electric, gas, propane and power vent tanks in a range of sizes.

Tankless (on-demand) water heaters

A tankless unit heats water only when you need it, so you don’t run out in the middle of a shower. They mount on the wall and free up floor space.

Hybrid heat pump water heaters

A heat pump water heater uses far less electricity than a standard electric tank. Efficiency Vermont offers rebates and low-cost loans on qualifying models.

Indirect water heaters

An indirect tank uses your boiler to heat your water. It’s a good pairing when you’re putting in a new boiler, and we often install the two together.

Combination boilers

One wall-hung unit that handles both your heat and your hot water. A good fit for homes short on space.

Make Your Water Heater Last Longer

A rusted sacrificial anode next to a brand new one

Most tanks have a sacrificial anode rod inside that takes the corrosion so the tank doesn’t. Once it’s eaten away, the tank starts rusting from the inside. On a recent call in Fletcher, Andrew found an anode rod completely worn through and replaced it, buying that tank a few more years. Ask about an anode check at your next service visit.

Signs It’s Time for a New Water Heater

  • Water runs out faster than it used to
  • Rusty or discolored hot water
  • Rumbling or popping from the tank
  • Water pooling around the base
  • The tank is 10 years old or more

Any of these sound familiar? Give us a call. Sometimes it’s a simple repair, and if it isn’t, we’ll tell you straight.

Water Heater Questions

How long does a water heater last?

Most tank water heaters last around 8 to 12 years, depending on water quality and maintenance. Tankless units usually last longer.

Is tankless worth it?

It depends on how much hot water your household uses and what fuel you have. Tankless costs more up front but saves space and won’t run out. We’ll give you an honest comparison.

Can you replace my water heater the same day?

Yes, in some circumstances we can make a same-day install work.

Do you install heat pump water heaters?

Yes. We recently replaced a leaking 80-gallon indirect tank in Fairfax with a Rheem Prestige 80-gallon heat pump water heater. Heat pump water heaters are one of the most efficient ways to heat water, and you may qualify for rebates or a low-cost loan through Efficiency Vermont.
